History of Antique Scrapbook website:
I was at my Mom's house installing a new digital scanner, printer and
software on her computer. While I was waiting for some new heritage software to load
on the computer we began talking about the books on her shelf. One area had
allot of older vintage looking books. She pulled one out to show me that looked
like it was about to fall apart any minute. It looked like a regular vintage
photo album. She started going through the pages and telling me about my family
heritage and thumbing through the vintage pictures. The scrapbook was done by my
Grand Mother in the 1900's. This was not just a photo album or old newspaper
clippings; she had utilized the latest scrapbooking ideas and trends for the
era. Scrapbooking during this time was not the same as modern scrapbooking with
special scrapbooking pages and tools. She had been scrapbooking with simple
thick black paper so the pictures stood out, strong glue that would last a long
time, basic scissors with different edge cuttings, and a variety of color wax
pencils to create color on some the vintage black and white photos. Another
creative scrapbooking embellishment that I found fascinating was the hand
drawings she made on many of the pages. The scrapbooking pages that have the
hand drawings really made the scrapbook pages layout interesting to look at.
Going through the pages with my Mom I realized there was allot of vintage photos
that really showed true American heritage in the scrapbook pages. I found it
fascinating that I was able to look at the scrapbook pages my grand mother made
almost 100 years after the fact. I felt I was able to really imagine the way
life was while she was growing up in the 1900's. It was nice to be able to go
through the history of my Grand Mother's life through the pages of her scrapbook
while seeing her special creative touches and embellishments throughout this
antique scrapbook. I finished the heritage computer software program
installation, rebooted and went home.
I kept thinking about the vintage scrapbook. I finally thought about scrapbooking in general.
I was not into scrapping but it seemed like
almost every woman I knew was into scrapbooking at one level or another. My Mom,
Sister, Wife and Mother in Law all had scrapbook fever. I heard them all talk
about scrapbook layouts, ideas, tips, techniques, papers, decorations and more.
They each had a scrapbooking table to set up their layouts. Several times I
heard them talk about vintage scrapbook page ideas, embellishments and layouts.
I told my wife about the vintage scrapbook my Mom had shown me and she was
interested in seeing the vintage scrapbook. I talked to my Mother in Law and she
had never seen a real vintage scrapbook that was this old and had some
scrapbooking pages with cut borders and hand drawings. I decided to borrow the
scrapbook from my Mom to show everyone. After the reactions the scrapbook
received I decided to make a scrapbook web site to show off the vintage
scapbooking work my Grand Mother had done. Maybe it would help to motivate and
inspire the scrapbooking creative ideas of the current generation so they would
have scrapbooks to show their children in future times. I committed to take the
vintage scrapbook and try my hand at transforming it into a free online digital scrapbooking gallery.
